    Role Overview

We are seeking a reliable, proactive, and experienced Maintenance Technician to provide day-to-day maintenance support across our supported living properties throughout Surrey.

This is a mobile role requiring travel between a number of occupied supported living houses. The successful candidate will report to the Facilities Manager and Director of Housing, working closely with Project Managers and support staff to ensure our properties remain safe, well-maintained, and comfortable for the people who live there.

As work is carried out within people's homes, it is essential that the successful candidate is professional, respectful, and sensitive to the needs of the individuals we support, including those who may be vulnerable or have additional support needs.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Carry out day-to-day repairs and general maintenance across supported living properties.
    • Undertake a range of maintenance tasks, including basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, minor repairs, and fitting fixtures and fittings.
    • Attend maintenance requests allocated by the Facilities Manager and prioritise work appropriately.
    • Respond promptly to urgent maintenance issues and health and safety concerns.
    • Assess defects and determine whether they can be safely repaired in-house or require specialist contractors.
    • Ensure specialist or regulated work is only undertaken where appropriately trained, competent, and authorised.
    • Keep the Facilities Manager informed of job progress, completion, and any issues encountered.
    • Report additional defects, property damage, or health and safety concerns identified during property visits.
    • Maintain accurate records of completed work, including photographs where required.
    • Liaise professionally with Project Managers, support staff, contractors, and colleagues.
    • Work safely within occupied properties while minimising disruption to residents.
    • Follow organisational procedures relating to health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality, and lone working.
    • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries when working within residents' homes.

    Essential Requirements

    The successful candidate must:

    • Have proven experience in general property maintenance or handyman work.
    • Be competent in basic plumbing, carpentry, decorating, and general repairs.
    • Hold a full UK driving licence.
    • Have access to their own vehicle for travel between properties across Surrey.
    • Provide and maintain their own tools suitable for general maintenance work.
    • Be reliable, punctual, and capable of working independently.
    • Be able to organise and prioritise maintenance tasks across multiple locations.
    • Have strong communication skills and provide clear updates on completed and outstanding work.
    • Be comfortable using a mobile phone, app, or work-order system to receive, update, and close maintenance jobs.
    • Demonstrate a good understanding of health and safety requirements and safe working practices.
    • Be professional, patient, and respectful when working in supported living environments.
    • Understand safeguarding responsibilities, confidentiality requirements, and professional boundaries.
    • Be willing to undertake an enhanced DBS check and any other required pre-employment checks.

    Desirable Criteria

    • Previous experience working within supported living, social care, housing, residential care, or facilities management settings.
    • Relevant maintenance or trade qualifications.
    • Health and Safety, Manual Handling, Asbestos Awareness, or similar training.
    • Experience working across multiple sites or properties.

    Person Specification

We are looking for someone who is dependable, practical, organised, and takes pride in delivering a high standard of work.

The successful candidate will be able to receive a maintenance request, attend the property as scheduled, assess the issue, complete the work safely and effectively, and provide clear feedback on the outcome.

Communication is a key part of the role. If a repair cannot be completed, parts are required, access is unavailable, or a specialist contractor is needed, the Maintenance Technician must promptly update the Facilities Manager to ensure appropriate follow-up action is taken.

Above all, the successful candidate will recognise that these properties are people's homes, not simply workplaces, and will always conduct themselves with professionalism, respect, and sensitivity.

    Important Information

Candidates must have access to their own vehicle and provide their own tools, as both are essential requirements of this role.

We’re committed to keeping the people we support safe, so this role requires a satisfactory enhanced DBS and background checks.
We are an equal opportunities employer and value diversity within our workforce. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK, as sponsorship is not available for this role.
